Critical Debates in Design ( task one )

Typeface:

Avant Garde:

Designing this typeface is a group work. Different people are involved in the design of this typeface at different times. But in the final edition, you also can find the elements of geometry. (In the first edition, New York design legend Herb Lubalin develops this typeface for a geometric magazine.)

Strength:

I think it is an easy to read font, whether headline or bodycopy. And I find host of designer use this typeface to show young and modern.

Weakness;

This is extremely good design, but in my opinion, this typeface hard to follow the ancient style.

Bembo:                                           

This is an old style font; it has a long and brilliant story. In fifteen century, it was used to great effect in Hypnerotomachina  Polipbili, which is a most beautiful book at that time.

Strength:

I think it is a famous typeface, easy to read. And designer who wants to show old style can choose this font.

Weakness:

I think it hard to show modern and young design.
